Well well well.
I hate you all. No seriously, my last Stadium Drift as Head Judge and you all decide to go and pull runs out of your ass and make it difficult for us to judge....... Those of you that attended the Pro Class drivers briefing would know that this round was the last round that I will be judging Stadium Drift, family commitments means that I cannot give 100% to judging, so rather than try and half ass it, Ive decided to hand the reigns over to Pete, one of our other judges.I am sure that he will continue the non biased judging that Stadium Drift offers and the events will run as smooth as always. Ian has offered me another position within the Stadium Drift series that is more suited to my commitments, so I wont be far from the action and will still be involved in Stadium Drift quite heavily. A big thank you to all of our judges is in order, Pete, Kate, Tim and Chi-Negro (Jamie), without you guys we couldn't have Australia's premier short course series as successful as it is, with certainly more to come.
Lets get the bulls*** rolling...............
B Class.
With a full field B class running (few last minute dropouts due to mechanical reasons), it meant that the B class guys would have to pull there fingers out if they wanted a podium finish. With Ben "Mercury" Hines out and James "AWD CAN Drift' Grady moved up to Pro Class, it gave the chance for some of the lesser experienced guys to stand on the podium. A surprise appearance by Guy "Ironman" Andrews, the ex ironman gun, in his 1Jz powered celica certainly raised some eyebrows, however his on track performance certainly proved he can mix it with the boys.
B Class Results (before final):
Jesse Hinze 132
Nathan Evans 126
Guy Andrews 123
Troy Moffit 122
Lars Eritz 120
Brenton Lambert 117
Beau Best 114
Terry Pfahl 98
Ryan Ackworth 92
Ben Thomson 60
Aaron Brown 53
Finals certainly were interesting to say the least. Jessie "Who needs tyres" Hinze completed his last two laps on belts and a rapidly deflating tyre. Guy "Nutri Grain" Andrews showed that he could mix it with the big boys with some very consistent runs. But after the smoke and sparks had cleared the results were as follows:
B Class Results (Finals):
1st Nathan Evans and Jessie Hinze
2nd Guy Andrews
3rd Troy Moffit
Congrats to all the B class guys, you are certainly all picking your act up and getting to know the track well.
Pro Class guys, where to start with you...........? Obviously my inspirational(?) drivers briefing must of had something to do with how some of you were driving, there was some very good runs. Would Josh "Rapidly becoming a bogan" Young use his multiple decades of experience in the art of origami swans to snatch another 1st place piece of silverware. Would Adam "Shorts 2 sizes too small for my brass buttons" Gibbs stop posing for the camera long enough to don his race suit and smash one and all? Would Robby "Stickers, what stickers?" Mounfield continue his insane center section speed for another podium finish? Would Tony "AC/DC for life!" Harrison overcome his fear of small cylindered vehicles to form a battle of the V8's? Would Eugene "Very Niiiiiiiice ^5" Arendsen" and his Kazakhstani powered goat mobile overcome cultural differences and be crowned "Kazakhstan Drifter Of The Year"? Would Tim "Agent Orange" Ottoway charm his way onto the podium? Could Darren "Whats going on for ya?" Appleton take his new whizz bang powered goggomobile to a much savored victory? Could it be entirely possible that I live in a fantasy world with cowboy midgets and French ladies dressed as hula girls?
Pro Class Results (before final):
Josh Young 160
Tim Ottoway 154
Tony Harrison 153
Adam Gibbs 149
Cameron Hill 149
Eugene Arendsen 149
John Cain 149
Dan Kenneally 148
Robbie Mounfield 146
Josh Boettcher 144
Paul Samson 144
Ryan Cummings 142
Sam Holz 141
Andrew Green 140
Andrew Pinder 138
Robert Whyte 129
Tim Harris 126
James Grady 123
Tyson Lash 123
Bronsen Bailey 122
Christian Dagostin 113
Darren Appleton 74 (broken)
Geoff Anderson 50
Jason Armstrong 45 (broken)
Jared Bellgardt 34 (broken)
With a final round of seven (7) competitors instead of the usual 4, the finals were always going to be interesting. Some very tight competition was to be had with the final scoring only one point difference between competitors.
Pro Class Results (Final):
1st Josh "Whos your daddy?" Young
2nd Tim "Fruity Lexia" Ottoway, Cameron "Groover" Hill, Tony "Why the F*** didnt I win?" Harrison
3rd Adam "Wheres a mirror?" Gibbs
4th Eugene "We make sexy time?" Arendsen
5th John "Green Machine"
Dont just make it close guys, make it damn near impossible next time hey? Congrats to all in both finals, well done guys.
Further highlighting the night was the "Drift Train" event that happened. 11 cars, led by the infamous Guy Andrews. Was a awesome spectacular to watch and certainly will be repeated in the future at some stage. With several close misses, the fact that no car suffered panel damage was a testament to all the drivers involved.
Tandem drifting saw Team Toyota take the trophy, note that the tandem drifting event held at the end of the night is a FUN event loosely judged and based on crowd response as well as general tandem drifting criteria.
Any way, 3rd and final round should be very interesting thats for sure. There will be some minor changes to the judging/scoring at the start of the next series, all drivers will be duly informed as to what will be changed.
Thats all from me, have fun guys, who knows I may even make a cameo appearance driving once or twice lol
