The weather seemed like it was going to ruin the first Stadium Drift in Adelaide, it did however hold off, and the first Adelaide Stadium Drift went off with a bang...
2 Queenslanders (Josh Young and Paul "Mumbles") come down to attack the AIR circuit, both of these were not new to Stadium Drift and the slow speed highly technical course, and they showed this on their first laps, attacking the course with guts, Josh Young was on fire early, and was trying to select the right gear for the fast section, using 4th for the first time, hit hit the wall very hard. Mumbles on the other hand drove his JZX100 down for the event (yes NOT TRAILERED DROVE), and then when finished drove it back home!
The tight technical track made the drivers really have to push their cars and their skills to new heights, and the crowd ooooooooed and ahhhhhhhhed when they got it right. It was a spectacle to watch, specially a car coming off the bowl at speed only to have to slow down, then switch back and go thru a speed trap S, very interesteing and entertaining.
The event is run as single passes, and each run is judged, the tally of each run then gets you a culmative points score, the top 4 scorers then go thru to the final, where they do 4 more runs which are judged, from these four runs they are then given places.
The top 4 were, Joel MacKerras, Rohan Merchant, Josh Young and Christian Pickering.
And after 4 awesome runs to battle out for the top spot,
the results were,
Josh Young 1st
Rohan Merchant 2nd
Christian Pickering 3rd
and
Joel MacKerras 4th
some notables for the night were, Jake Jones and James Mardle, both were making it look easy!!
